Dr. Meridith Berry, Family Financial Education Specialist for the University of Missouri Extension, will be holding the workshop ‘Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?’ on July 21 at the Daviess County Library to discuss the importance of planning for the disposition of non-titled property prior to death. Non-titled property refers to personal property or possessions that do not have a legal document (such as a title) that indicates who officially owns the property.

“Often times it is the non-titled property that carries with it the most meaning for family members, and it can also be the most argued about,” says Berry. “Families will fracture, often for generations, because of disputed distribution of personal property”.

While inheritance is a normative part of life, few families are prepared to navigate the delicate and often challenging subject of family inheritance. This workshop addresses the issues related to family inheritance, particularly as it concerns non-titled property. Participants will learn various tools that are useful in making sure their possessions are distributed according to their wishes. Participants will be given a workbook to help them work through the process.

The class will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Daviess County Library basement on July 21. Pre-registration is requested to insure enough materials are available. Cost is $15 per person, or $20 for a couple sharing a workbook. Deadline to register and be guaranteed a workbook is July 17.  Please call the Grundy County Extension office at 660-359-4040 ext 8.  If ADA accommodations are needed, please indicate as you register.
