The Daviess County Health Department (DCHD) is doing a summer giveaway of four tickets to the Kansas City Zoo! All you have to do is come in and get your required shots this summer and we will put your name in our drawing. Ages to qualify are 2 months to 18 years of age, and the drawing will be done on July 29, 2016.

Immunization requirements are always and ever changing. See the most recent requirements below.
New 2016-2017 School Immunization Requirements:
- Students entering 8th grade are now required to have one dose of the Meningococcal vaccine (MCV) in addition to the already required Tdap vaccine before they can attend school in the fall.
- Students entering 12th grade are now required to have 2 doses of the Meningococcal Vaccine (MCV) before they can attend school in the fall. Two doses of MCV are required, unless the first dose was administered to a student 16 years of age or older, in which case only one dose is required.
Many teenagers also qualify for other important immunizations that are not required but highly recommended such as: Hepatitis A, Varicella, HPV, Meningococcal B … the list continues to expand. If you want to know if your child is up to date on his /her Immunizations feel free to call at 660-663-2414. We will be happy to assist you. We also check immunization records during our sports physicals during the summer. We still have two more days left to fill, so if your child needs a physical for sports/camp, call us to inquire.
DCHD has vaccine supplied by the state from the Vaccines for Children program (VFC). To qualify for VFC vaccine you must be: uninsured; or underinsured (have insurance but it does not pay for immunizations); or have Medicaid Coverage; or be an Alaskan or American Native or Pacific Islander.
If you do not qualify for VFC vaccine, the health department has contracted with six major health insurance companies and can offer immunizations through insurance vaccine. ALL parents are encouraged to call their insurance companies to make sure that they cover immunizations and to determine if the Daviess County Health Department is a provider in their network. If DCHD gives the immunizations through insurance and the insurance company refuses payment, the parents will be held responsible for the cost. So, parents are encouraged to come in with the information already gathered. If the DCHD is not a provider for your insurance you will have to go to your primary care provider for immunizations. DCHD has worked very hard to be able to serve and immunize as many of the community as possible, but state and federal guidelines must be followed.
Most children entering kindergarten require their last set of Immunizations, usually consisting of DTaP-Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis; IPV-Polio; MMR-Measles, Mumps and Rubella; Varicella-Chickenpox. Usually these can be given in combination vaccines (Kinrix=DTaP/IPV) and (ProQuad=MMR/Varicella) which will decrease these immunizations to only two shots instead of four.
