Amy Hudlemeyer and Levi Alden have earned the right to compete in the Dodge City Missouri High School Rodeo Finals in Columbia. Amy will be competing in the pole bending and queen contest. Levi will be competing in steer wrestling and team roping.
Wanda Taylor of Gallatin was recently selected as the Midwest Artist of the Year. Wanda is a self-taught artist and her only medium is colored pencils.

Dick Harlow, representing VFW Post #2172 of Gallatin, presented a lifetime membership award to Hugh Houghton of Gallatin. Mr. Houghton is the only known survivor of World War I in Daviess County.
Cassie Renae Brown, daughter of Greg and Kim Brown, Pattonsburg, won first place in the Jr. Pre-Teen category of the Miss Kansas City Pageant held at the Midland Theater. In January, Cassie will go to Nationals in Las Vegas, where she will compete for Miss North America.

Anne Foley, a University of Missouri-Kansas City junior, is a new initiate of the national honor society Phi Kappa Phi. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement and character. Anne is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Foley of Gallatin.
Mandy Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johnson of Gallatin, was elected the 1986-87 state president of the Missouri Association of Future Homemakers of America at the state conference held in Columbia.
Victor Marolf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Marolf of Gallatin, received a scholarship to participate in a week-long seminar sponsored by the School of Mines and Metallurgy at the University of Missouri-Rolla. Victor is one of only 40 students from Missouri invited to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Pleaton of Enid, Oklahoma, escaped serious injury after their Beechcraft plane crashed while landing at the Lake Viking air strip. The plane landed hard, blowing the tire on the nose wheel, which dug into a soft spot on the runway, flipping the plane end over end.
The Gallatin PeeWee Red Team won first place at the Pattonsburg Tournament. Team members are Roy Hazzard, Terry Collier, Lynn Dunnington, Ray Schweizer, Terry Huston, John Howard, Darren Adkins, Scott Huitt, Darren Hamilton, Todd Evans, Robbie Collins, Craig Cummings and Tom McNeely.
Ben Grisel of Gallatin Cub Pack 67 placed first in the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby at the Scout-o-Rama held Sunday in Cameron.

Friends of the Ernest Melson family will be pleased to learn that Mr. Melson has returned to Gallatin from Chillicothe in order to take the job of manager of the Lowry-Miller Lumber Company yard.
Daviess County continues to experience a definite downward trend in farm numbers, according to the 1964 Census of Agriculture, with 1,430 farms counted as contrasted to 1,599 recorded in the 1959 census. The average farm size in the county is now 227.7 acres, compared to 118.16 acres in 1959.
An item of unusual interest is displayed in the window of The Phyllis Shop this week. It is a baby dress, handmade by Virginia McDonald for Janet Selby, and which was worn by Pam Tate as a christening gown.

Bob Aulgur was a member of the graduating class of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy and received his diploma Sunday at the Commencement exercises.
Roy Hillman of Gallatin and William Landes of Jamesport were recently promoted to the rank of sergeant first class in the Reserve Unit of the 381st Field Artillery Battalion.

W.C. Evans, widely-known Gallatin businessman and manager of the Young Lumber Company here, died last Friday afternoon of a heart attack while in the office of Dr. H. W. Bailey. He was 56 years of age.
A survey of 24 counties in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas, conducted recently by the St. Joseph Gazette, shows an estimated 3,500 to 4,000 unoccupied farm houses. One hundred sixty-two rural mail carriers counted the number of vacant farm houses.
A new engine for Gallatin’s municipal light plant, at a net cost of $21,450, was contracted for by the city council at a meeting Tuesday night. The municipal light plant houses three engines at present and the increased demand for current makes it imperative the plant is able to meet those demands.
