Aaron Balliet, 21, Cameron, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of McKenzie Rae Patti, 20, Cameron. Balliet was the driver in a one-vehicle accident which occurred in Daviess County on May 29. The accident resulted in the death of Patti, who was a passenger in the vehicle. She died on June 1 at Truman Medical Center.

Balliet turned himself in at the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office on June 3. He is also charged with driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving involving an accident, and failure to stop for stop sign.
According to the highway patrol, the crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. May 29 as Balliett was traveling westbound on Oval Avenue about four miles west of Altamont. He lost control of the 2010 Mercury Milan and traveled across Highway 69 and struck an embankment. The vehicle came to rest off the west side of the roadway on its wheels, facing northwest. The Mercury was totaled. Both occupants were unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived.
Balliett was transported by air ambulance to St. Luke’s on the Plaza in Kansas City. Patti was transported by Daviess-DeKalb Ambulance District to Cameron Regional Medical Center and later taken by air ambulance to Truman Medical Center.
The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.R. Johnston, assisted by Sgt. M.A. Ott, Sgt. L.M. Newman, Cpl. M.S. Belshe, Cpl. S.E. Pritzel, and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
