VFW Post 2172 of Gallatin conducted annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at the Lyle Cemetery in Gallatin on May 30. Representatives from the VFW Post 2172 Ladies Auxiliary and local Boy Scout troops also participated in the events. Ceremonies involved the laying of wreaths and flowers, a three-volley rifle salute, and the playing of “TAPS.” Current commander Vic Dill reminded the small crowd gathered of the sacrifices of both the fallen and living veterans and active military personnel. After the event, Commander Robert Smith presented a lapel pin to John Sullenger in appreciation of his service in Vietnam. The VFW also provided services at the Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport in the afternoon.
