The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office participated in Missouri’s May 2016 Youth Alcohol Enforcement Crackdown, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” which ran from May 5-16. Sheriff Ben Becerra calls it a great success.
The Sheriff’s Office reported one driving while intoxicated arrest, two drug arrests, two warrant arrests and one no valid license, as well as six felony arrests of miscellaneous crimes. There were 13 speed violations, three no insurance summonses, and four other moving violation summonses issued during this crackdown.
“I am proud of my deputies for their hard work and dedication to making our county roadways safer,” said Sheriff Becerra.
Substance-impaired driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals. Each year, impaired driving costs the lives of thousands on America’s highways. There were 178 people killed and 605 seriously injured in 2015 on Missouri highways. That works out to approximately one substance-impaired driving involved fatality every two days.
From May 1-12, 2015, four people were killed and 18 seriously injured in Missouri traffic crashes that involved at least one substance-impaired driver.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s Youth Alcohol Enforcement Crackdown Campaign, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”
