Public Works Director Mark Morey told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their meeting held May 9, that he had reached out to Sinkhorn Tree Service, Asplundh, and I.G. Construction for tree trimming bids. Sinkhorn Tree Service was the only company that responded with a bid of $19,500, which the board approved. The bid includes trimming and/or removing the overgrown trees on circuit #2 which feeds electricity to the school. Morey stated the tree trimming is long overdue and needs to be budgeted every year going forward to keep it well maintained.

Herzog has completed the resurfacing of East and West Mill Street.

Keller Construction plans to pave Clay Street later in the summer.

The board initially discussed using sales tax money to complete another resurfacing project while Herzog had a plant in Gallatin. However, the board decided on doing two large street projects next year as well as sealing Olive and Richardson.

Public Works Director stated he would like to purchase hot mix from Herzog and patch a few places on Willow this summer. Crews plan to work on potholes in the coming weeks.

City Administrator Stonecypher provided the board with People Service’s bid to maintain the lift stations and collection system at an estimated $60,000. The board discussed, but no decision was made.

Morey led a discussion on the water and electric AMI metering systems he has been researching. He also announced a few companies he has been in touch with would like to give a presentation to the board.

The city’s insurance provider MIRMA evaluated the cupola building last week. The representative was concerned with the back of building and will be working with Mr. Stonecypher for requirements to continue to insure the property.

Police Chief Mark Richards announced that two sixth grade classes at Gallatin R-5 have graduated from the DARE program. The department will be instructing a bicycle safety program for kindergarteners at Gallatin R-5 before school is out. A discussion was led by aldermen regarding ATV’s speeding on Prospect, dog issues on the north end of town, and property ordinance violations.

Chief Richards submitted a report on activity from April 24 to May 6 with the following reports taken and tickets given:

2-Animal Control; 2-Alarms; 2-Funeral Escorts; 7-Peace Disturbance; 1-Vehicle Unlocks; 2-Juvenile Issues; 1-Domestic Disturbance; 6-Codes Issue; 4-Assist Other Agencies; 1-Harrassment; 1-Parking Violation; 1-Tresspassing; 2-Stealing; 1-Open Door. There is one dog in the pound.

The water department fixed a few water leaks last week. Colton Beck has returned to work this summer and has been trying to get the mowing caught up. The second grade toured the water plant and electric barn. A few electric workers will be in lineman training this week. Crews will be working on the pool in the coming weeks.

The April transaction report was approved.

Bills in the amount of $126,224.97 were approved for payment.

Discussion was held on the April Financial Review.

The board reviewed the Park Board’s April minutes and accounts payable.

An ordinance was approved authorizing the mayor and administrator to sign and execute the equipment lease agreement with Foley Equipment Company.

Administrator Stonecypher participated in a community health risk table top exercise at the Daviess County Health Department last week with other county officials. Stonecypher stated it was a good exercise and they had good participation.

The aldermen announced that they have received several compliments on the resurfacing of East and West Mill streets completed by Herzog.

The board entered into closed session pursuant to consider legal actions, causes of action or litigation involving a public governmental body and any confidential or privileged communications between a public governmental body or its representatives and its attorneys; to consider the leasing, purchase or sale of real estate; and to consider the hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting of particular employees.
