The arrests were made after a search warrant was executed at their residence south of Gallatin on April 29. They were held on 24-hour investigative hold until the charges were filed.

According to the probable cause report, Hess and Spangler signed a consent for the search. Deputy Tyler Miller then ran K9 Alan through the residence, and the dog made a positive indication on a safe located in the master bathroom.

Hess first denied knowledge of the contents of the safe, but then admitted there were illegal substances in the safe. He was unsuccessful in attempting to open the safe, but Spangler was successful. Located inside the safe were various items of drug paraphernalia, four bags of synthetic cannabinoids, and a substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Bond is set at $20,000 cash for each.
