Ruth Bailey, 97, of Gallatin passed away April 19, 2016 at the Daviess County Nursing Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 22 at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin where friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday. Visitation will be 1-hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Viking Church c/o McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.
Ruth Pauline Bailey, the daughter of Albert W. and Mary (Stephens) was born June 24, 1918 near Rogers, Ark. Her family moved to Republic, MO in 1929 and to Ava, MO in 1931. She was the oldest of 3 children. She graduated from high school at The School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo. in 1936. She attended Chillicothe Business College and came to Gallatin to work as a secretary for Inter-County Telephone Company, Oct. 31, 1941.
Ruth was married to Dr. Harold W. Bailey June 20, 1943. He preceded her in death March 30, 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gallatin and a charter member of the Lake Viking Church where they had lived since 1974. She was the first woman to serve on the Gallatin R-5 School Board from 1961 to 1967. She also served on the Lake Viking Church Board. Her life was devoted to being a helpmate to her husband and a mother to their son.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 43 years Dr. Harold Bailey; son, Robert Bailey and her 2 brothers, Bill and Bob Evans.
Ruth is survived by her Grandsons, Rob Bailey and Tim (Marcie) Bailey, both of Pattonsburg; Great-grandchildren, Blaine, Bethany and Weatherby Bailey, Jordan and Gage Talbert; and her special friend Norma McCaulla.
