Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder is seeking nominations for the 2106 Lieutenant Governor’s Veterans Service Award, created to recognize Missouri veterans who provide volunteer service to their communities.

“Many of our state’s veterans, who selflessly served their nation, continue to provide invaluable service to their communities through their volunteerism,” Kinder said. “This award gives me the opportunity to recognize and honor our great Missouri veteran volunteers.”

The deadline for nominations is May 7. Each nominee will receive a certificate of recognition, which will note the nominating person or agency. Winners, selected from across the state, will be selected on Memorial Day, May 30. They will be presented with an official Declaration from Lieutenant Governor Kinder.

To be considered for the award, individuals must have served or currently be serving in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and volunteer a minimum of 25 hours per year.

A Veterans Service Award Nomination form can be found at the lieutenant governor’s website by clicking on the “Veterans” banner and then clicking on the “2016 Veterans Service Award Nomination Form” link.

Nomination forms also are available at veteran service agencies, libraries, courthouses, senior centers and other agencies in communities throughout the state.
Completed nominations should be mailed to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office at 201 W. Capitol Ave., Room 224, Jefferson City, Mo., 65101, or emailed to [email protected]. For questions about the award, call the Lieutenant Governor’s Office at 573-751-4727.

“I encourage anyone who knows a veteran who volunteers to nominate them for this award,” Kinder added. “This is a great opportunity to bring much-deserved recognition to our veterans who continue to give back to their communities.”
