Tanner Johnson finished second in the pole vault
For the second year in a row, Winston’s Jordan Leonard dominated the sprint races at the Trenton Invitational, held Thursday in the best weather day yet for area high school athletes.
Just like a year ago, Leonard won the 100, 200 and 400-meter sprints and placed high in the long jump event. His second place finish in the long jump gave him 38 points for the day, topping last season’s 34 points at the same event.
Other area athletes did well on Thursday. Gilman City’s Hailey Burrows won the high jump. Gallatin’s Tate Hancock and Tanner Johnson swept the top two places in the pole vault. Teammate Harris Cameron also won the discus event. Winston’s Saxton Pliley took first in the javelin throw. Tri-County’s Katana Almond won the 1600 and 3200-meter races.

Gallatin’s girls placed ninth with 22 points and the GHS boys finished seventh with 27 points at Monday’s Worth County Relays.
Cora Stout brought home a first place finish for the Lady Bulldogs, winning the 400-meter dash in 1:06.11. The top finish for the Bulldog boys came from Tanner Johnson, who took second in the pole vault with a vault of 12’, and Harris Cameron, who finished second in the discus with a throw of 146’6”.
The Lady Bulldog 4×800-meter relay team of Stout, Jacklyn Maize, Kylie Jeffers and Emily Condie took third in 11:39.01. The 4×400-meter relay team of Jeffers, Maize, Stout and Addison Stanley placed fourth in 4:40.12.
Jeffers also picked up a point with a sixth place finish in the 1600-meter run (6:35.30). Shaunessy Eaton placed sixth in the 3200-meter run (14:59.64).
For the Bulldog boys, Cameron also finished fourth in the shot put (42’2”). Chad Walker placed fifth in the 800-meter run (2:15.62). Ayden Wayne gained one point for a sixth place finish in the 3200-meter run (11:44.30). The 4×800-meter relay team of Caleb Boyd, Chad Walker, Morgan Corwin and Braydon Walker finished fourth in 9:17.42.
