The Salary and Welfare Committee and Superintendent Brian Robinson presented the Winston R-6 School Board proposed 2016-2017 Salary Schedule during their meeting, held April 18. The board approved the salary schedule, increasing the base to $29,150 and extending percentage increases to noncertified staff and administrators an equivalent 3.33%.

The board adopted the 2016-2017 school calendar, which has the first day of school on August 16 and the last day on May 16. The calendar calls for 171 student days and 181 staff contract days.
The board approved an Eight Period Day Schedule for the District. The change will take effect for the 2016-2017 school year.
The School Board offered Letters of Intent to all noncertified staff for the next school year.
Letters of Intent for extra duties were offered to the following: Ryan Hedrick – Athletic Director and Varsity Girls Softball; Eric Lewis – Varsity Boys Basketball; Kayla Cheeney – Varsity Girls Basketball and Junior High Girls Basketball; Curtis May – Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball, Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball, Boys Junior High Basketball; Lisa Codding – Varsity Assistant Girls Softball; Zachary Keller – Varsity and Junior High Cross Country and Music Hillary Taylor – Cheerleader Sponsor; Wayne Alexander & Melissa O’Dell – Co-Academic Bowl; Linda Littrell – FBLA and Yearbook; Jody Yuille – FCCLA; Linda Warford – Policy Coordinator, Web Design and Federal Programs Coordinator; Katie Martin – FFA; Abigail Yohn and Linda Litterell – Co-National Honors Society; Melissa Odell and Brett Wilmes – Co- HS Student Council; Michelle Moore – Elementary Student Council; Track Extra Duty will be offered upon completion of the track season.
Career Day at Winston R-6. Counselor Angela McDaniel organized a career fair for students to learn about each of the six career paths. Students rotated through presentations and activities and learned about possible job duties and earning potential. Pictured is Joe Gagnon. The School Board offered a contract to Jen Lewendowski to teach summer school.

The Winston School Board reorganized with the following officers: President – David Neth; Vice-President – Allen Rhoades; Secretary – Shelly Mason; Treasurer – John Muessig.
The board certified the election results for the Winston R-6 School District Prop 2 question. The question passed with a vote total of 191 in favor of the question and 182 opposed. The question required a simple majority to pass.
Elementary principal reported March Students of the Month were Trinaty West and Lilyenne Hocker. They were selected based on their demonstration of the school’s character trait for March – Cooperation.
April 9 was Winston’s annual Junior/Senior Prom. Morgan Farrell and Renae Brice were crowned King and Queen.
Attendance rate and enrollment was as follows: K- 6 (86 students) 96.01%. Early Childhood Special Education student count is now at nine.
Winston FFA members and sponsor Katie Martin will organize a Barnyard Day for all students on May 12.
Grades three through six will bounce over to “Skyzone” for some trampoline fun on May 6. Kindergarten through second will visit Sea Life Aquarium on May 13.
High school principal reported; Winston FFA Dairy Foods team qualified for state. The team is made up of four freshmen. Brooke Heldenbrand, Shelby Mason, Ross Nelson, and Connor Christensen will represent the school at state competition April 21 and 22.
On April 2 Winston band took its students to the District Solo and Ensemble contest at Saint Joseph Central High School. Taylor Smith received a 1 rating on her flute solo and will be advancing to the state competition on April 28 and 29.
