A dominant first half effort, both offensively and defensively, set the stage last Friday night for Gallatin’s first victory of the 2015 season.

The Bulldogs raced to an 18-0 lead and that first quarter momentum carried them to a 24-6 victory over Princeton Gallatin’s defense set the tone for the game with four interceptions and five quarterback sacks of Tiger sophomore Andrew Smith.

The Bulldogs took the game’s opening possession 60 yards for a score, capped by Wyatt Bird’s 36-yard TD blast up the middle. Harris Cameron swatted a pass, plucked it out of the air and returned the ball to the Tiger 14-yard line. That set up another Bird scoring run of five yards.

A Tate Hancock interception set up Gallatin’s third score of the first quarter. Hancock threw a halfback pass to Caleb Boyd, who caught the 36-yard bomb in the end zone behind double coverage.

The Tigers blocked a punt in GHS territory in the second quarter but superb Bulldog pass defense kept the home team out of the end zone. That would be the only time in the first half the Tigers spent on the Bulldogs’ side of the field.

A long pass from Smith to Cash Hartley down to the Bulldog 10-yard line opened third quarter action. Smith capped the drive with a TD pass to Blaine Milburn.

Just as Smith appeared to be getting into a rhythm with his receivers, Tristen Wilson cut short a PHS drive with an interception and return to the Tiger 23.

Gallatin tacked on a final TD in the fourth period on another Bird run of eight yards.

Princeton took one more shot at getting on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs were whistled for a 15-yard penalty, but a Cameron tackle for loss brought on fourth and 11. Hancock stepped in front of Hartley to deflect a pass that effectively ended Princeton’s night on offense.
