This year’s Chautauqua, which will run from Sept. 17-20, will have a new addition, a juried art show! Located in the beautiful Seasons restaurant right on the Gallatin square, the art show will feature painting, drawing and photography by artists young and old. There are several ways to participate.

SEE AND SUPPORT

Not an artsy type? No problem. Come and admire the efforts of your friends and neighbors Friday, Sept. 18, from 2-6 p.m. or Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Everyone needs a little encouragement so there will be comment cards for you to submit to any artist. Just write the title of the artwork on the top and they will get it.

EXPLORE

For wiggly young kiddos, there will be a cardboard “cave” where they can add artwork of their own! Young children must be supervised at all times and will not be allowed inside the art show without adult supervision. Please plan accordingly!

There will also be an art scavenger hunt, with a prize! Can you find the picture with a ball in it? What is the title of the painting that is almost all in blue? This is a perfect opportunity for home school groups and families to provide art enrichment in a fun and local event! Please call Heidi at 660-663-2909 to schedule a group.

CAST YOUR VOTE

During art show hours on Friday, cast your vote for the best artwork in each category. The winners will receive the People’s Choice award! Pieces will be labeled with the title only to prevent a popularity contest. The winners of the People’s Choice Award have the option of being in the Chautauqua Parade on Saturday.

SUBMIT

There are three divisions within the categories of Painting, Drawing and Photography. The divisions are Adult, High School (ages 13-18) and Juniors (ages 5-12). Please visit www.DaviessCountyArt.com for submission deadlines and rules. There is a $15 submission fee.

The Best In Show prizes are as follows: Adult – $200, High School – $50, Juniors – art supply basket (worth $50 in supplies). First, second and third place prizes will be awarded per category and division.
