Fairview Community

Sunday School opened with the Lord’s Prayer led by Shelly Mason. Call to worship and prayer was by Vanda Davis. Music was by Marsha Vanisko and Marilyn Searcy. Special prayers are for the Peanut Ross family, Ray Smith, Jim Stith, Melva Clemens, Bill Haggard, and Joyce Ann Perkins. Praise and prayer is for Raymond Searcy.

Pastor Bob McCutcheon read Matthew 14:22 and presented the message “Victory to Storms of Life.” Everyone is invited to Winston Ministerial Alliance Sing on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. Music and refreshments will be served at Fairview Community Church.

Gallatin Assembly of God

The adult Sunday School lesson was from Judges 6:1-18. Jim Leonard showed how the Lord referred to Gideon as a man of valor. The main thought was “We need to humble ourselves and put all our trust in God’s plan for our life.”

The morning service opened with singing “Marching On” as we collected this week’s missionary offering, followed by an update of our giving by Ina McFee. Mona Roberts shared a special number as the tithes and offerings were received. After hearing the praise reports and prayer requests, the congregation agreed in prayer.

Zoe Smith led us in worship and singing, including “We Bring Sacrifice of Praise.” Pastor Smith’s sermon was “The Wise Shall Inherit Heavenly Glory. He used Proverbs 3:32-35 as his text. He said, “The scorners lack wisdom from the Holy Spirit, and need to humble themselves before God to inherit eternal glory.”

Altamont United Methodist

Candle lighting and choral call to worship was “I Love You, Lord.” We welcomed the family of Pastor Marilyn Dorst and Marine Sgt. Bo Malo. Scripture was by Jay Dorst from I Kings 8:1-30, “Solomon’s Prayer.” Children’s time was “People who do wrong things: why is there evil?” Pastor Marilyn’s message was “Weapons of Defense.”

Special music was by Maggie Brumgardt on her ukulele and singing a medley of songs. Our church picnic and swimming was enjoyed by all.

A praise report was given for Charles Allen. Homemade ice cream social will be at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6. Gallatin church will be our guest. Join us for holy communion this Sunday.

Coffey Baptist

Sunday morning worship opened with prayer by Pastor Eldon. We sang “Praise God, From Whom All Blessings Flow” and “Because He Lives.” The children’s message was given on the life of Moses. Announcements: evening service at 6 p.m. and Bible study at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Aug. 30 will be movie night showing “Beyond Gates of Splendor.”

Sept. 4 on Friday Walter Plant will bring his music to our church. Bob Henderson is in much need of our prayers. He has fallen three times this past month. We have such a long list of folks on our prayer needs list, we recommend giving prayer for the entire congregation. We sang “Close to Thee” and “Down at the Cross.” The message by Pastor Eldon was from Hebrew 10:19-25. We closed our service with “Footsteps of Jesus.”

Gallatin First Christian

The Praise Team began our 8:20 a.m. service with an opening song of praise. Kim Ness began our 10:50 a.m. service with a hymn with Leila Prewitt playing piano. LaVaughn Thomas opened with announcements at both services. Todd Holcomb had our children’s message at both services. Pastor Russ Hamilton shared from Luke 9:21-27. Aug. 30 will be our Combined Unity Service at 9:30 a.m. We will have Sunday School at 8:30 a.m. Prayer wheel additions: Laurie Kercher, Wayne Clevenger, Judy Watson, Donald Burns, Jarod Rains, Kase Critten, and Maxine Parker.

Lake Viking

The worship service Sunday began with the congregation singing “Ain’t God Good” followed by the welcome to our visitors. Pastor Robert Nelson’s sermon was “I am the Bread of Life” from Matthew 14:13-21. The special music was sung by Ben Becerra. The Adult Bible Study Group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Youth Group will resume meetings next week. There will be a 5th Sunday Pot Luck Dinner Aug. 30 following the worship service. Bring a covered dish and join us for a time of fellowship and lots of good food. Lake Viking Church is located just outside the east entrance to Lake Viking. Established in 1972, we are an interdenominational church. Our Sunday School begins at 9 a.m. and our Worship Service begins at 10 a.m. Come and join us as we worship the risen Lord.

Friends in Christ

We were welcomed by Shonna Morrison. Peggy Earnst led us in prayer. Praise songs were “Forever” and “Word of God Speak.” We began a new sermon series by Andy Stanley called “What Makes You Happy?” The message was “Nothing” and was based on Matthew 22:36-39. Small group time followed the message.

Gallatin First Baptist

Wood Marshall welcomed everyone. Darrell Critten led prayer. Linda Arnold presented an overview of her evening bible study, and led the choir in “Ah, Lord God.” Mike Henderson led praise. Lacey Henry provided special music. Bro. Garrett’s message was on “Holiness.” Celebration Choir will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Adult Bible Study and JOY Youth will meet on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with Men’s Bible Study at 7 p.m.

Women’s Wellness First Place 4 Health will begin on Aug. 27 at 6:30 with orientation for new members. Bible study begins on Sept. 3 at 6:15 p.m. Please contact Deby Gann at 663-7850. The cost of the study books is $20.

Keenagers will meet Sept. 3, and Women’s Wellness will meet at 6:15 pm. Men’s Bible Study meets Tuesday evenings at 7 beginning on Sept. 8. The Pioneer Club will meet Sept. 9 at 5:30 for the evening meal, and study time from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Celebration Choir will begin their fall practices on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Olive Baptist

Brother David’s Sunday morning message was “Those who love Jesus, must keep His word” from John 14. Sarah Ishmael’s children’s message was “Walking the Walk” from II John 6. Sunday evening we had a “back to school” cookout and fish fry, with games and face painting for the children. Our church trip to “The Living History Farm” in Iowa will be Aug. 29. Please meet at the church at 9 a.m.

Pattonsburg Christian

Scripture reading was from Philippians 4:4-9. Rev. Terry’s sermon “Foundation” was from Colossians 2:4-9. Remember in prayer: Betty McFee, Jeanne Oliphant, Tessa Lang, Brad Stitt, Bill and Judy Fleming, Christopher Cameron, Angie Gallus, Peggy Zerla, Edith Costa, Jay Campbell, and Merma Stitt.

Gallatin United Methodist

Pastor Mike Tipton opened the 11 a.m. service as Mady Tipton and Kendra McMahon lit the altar candles. Joys and concerns were shared. Melanie Tipton delivered the children’s message “Showing Love to Others” after which the children collected “Pennies for Packs” for Festival of Sharing. Pastor Mike Tipton blessed the children’s backpacks with prayer as they start back to school. Pastor Mike’s message “Do No Harm” is the first in a series from John Wesley’s Three Simple Rules for Living a Spirit Filled Life.
Altamont Methodist church ice cream social is at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6. Aug. 30 will be dine in/carry out ham dinner. Call Nancy Tate for orders. Fall Bible study will begin Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. at Sweatman’s home. Prayer concerns are for the family of Dale Alexander, Justin Holt, and Carl and Sherri Carder.
