The DeKalb County Farm Service Agency (FSA), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and MU Extension are hosting the first annual Women in Ag “Home Grown” Event at the June Conley Building in Maysville on September 24. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for attendees to visit local vendors, followed by a Container Gardening Workshop at 6, dinner served at 6:30, and guest speaker, Andrew McCrea at 7.

The event will include local vendors including Windy Wine Co, KK Farms Meats, Prairie Flowers, Grindstone Valley Winery, Farmhouse Candles, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, CR Seed and Service, Inspirational Photography, Crossroads Quilters and more.
“Our mission is to promote pride and interest in agriculture,” said DeKalb FSA County Executive Director Mandi Bird. “Our goal is to provide information and sources of support, in a fun and social setting, which will enrich the personal and professional lives of women involved in the many facets of agriculture.”
Tommi Herbster, owner and founder of Prairie Flowers, will demonstrate how to create your own special container gardens. A beef and pork dinner will be catered by local producer and landowner, Sue Washburn. Andrew McCrea, local farmer, business man, author and radio personality, will share stories about the impact of women in agriculture.
