The Gallatin Garden and Craft Club met July 21 for their monthly meeting. Hostess for the month, Sue Downey, held the meeting at the First Baptist Church. Sue’s reading of an anonymous letter given to her by a friend was hilarious. The letter recounted how a lady from a southern state was anticipating moving to a northern state for a year. The lady was anxious to experience snow, fall weather, and changes of season. However, as the letter recounted, the encounters with ice storms, snow, rain, more rain, hot weather, chiggers and animals with “not so pleasant aroma,” made the lady more than ready to return back to her original home. Most members could only guess if this letter had the lady living in the northwest corners of Missouri.
Sue completed her program with a small child’s quilt she had made of intricate work, which members could view. This prompted members to decide to bring pictures of one of their own quilts for the next meeting.
The meeting continued with the review of summer projects. The rain this summer is encouraging those in Gallatin to keep their yards ready for judging for yard of the month. Members also discussed the purchases of flowers grown by the Gallatin FFA Chapter. Members praised the work of the FFA and advisor Mr. Alden.
Members were pleased to have historian Delma Rogers present after recent medical procedures. Delma, even with her brace on, wanted to attend so that she could encourage members to continue to spread the word that pictures and projects of past years of Garden Club are being sought.
The meeting concluded with refreshments being served by Sue Downey. Members will travel to Lake Viking at the home of Jean Caldwell for the August meeting.
