Ruth was born and raised in Kansas with seven brothers and sisters. She grew up on a farm where she learned to be a hard worker and dedicate herself to her family. She married Roy McLaughlin and moved with him while he was in the Navy. They settled in Altamont where she has lived for 70 years on the farm.
Ruth has raised three children who gave her eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She has loved watching her children grow up while playing cards over tea and talking about the old days with them.
Her family says she is always cheerful and talks to everyone she comes into contact with and can find a friend in anyone.
