Firman Eugene Mall, Sr., Gallatin, passed away July 21 at Liberty Hospital. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cremation was completed by McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.
Firman was born May 15, 1923, the son of Eldon and Gaye (Snyder) Mall in Broughton, Kan. The Mall family lived on a farm until Firman was in the eighth grade, then moving to Clay Center, Kan., where he graduated from high school in 1941. Firman proudly served his country for three years in the US Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. Following his discharge he attended college at Pittsburg State where he graduated, later receiving his master’s degree. Firman began his teaching career in Kansas City, where he taught on the high school level and later at Kansas City Kansas Junior College. Firman was united in marriage to JoAnn Kendall June 6, 1948, in Clay Center, Kan. They were blessed with one son, Gene.
In 1997 Firman and JoAnn retired and moved to Gallatin to make their home and be near their son. Firman was a long-time member of the St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Trenton. He was an avid woodworker and even taught his craft; he was talented with his hands and would make beautiful wood pieces to share with his family and friends. He loved to spend time in his shop. Firman was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Firman was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Leta Corbett, and his brother, Jack Mall.
Firman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years JoAnn, of the home, son Gene Mall and wife Patty of Gallatin, brother Roger Mall of Clay Center, and sisters Jaclyn Cochran of Liberty and Lavilla Michud and husband Darwin of Salina, Kan., sister-in-law Katie Mall, and several nieces and nephews.
