The Winston R-6 Board of Education began planning for another school year during their meeting held Monday, July 20. The first day of school is on Aug. 18.
Upcoming calendar includes the following: Aug. 3 – Fall Sports practices begin for 9-12 grade students; Aug. 5 – All Grades Student Registration 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Aug. 12-14 – Staff Inservice; Aug. 13 – All School Open House 6–7 p.m., students bring supplies to classrooms; Aug. 13 – Battle of the Classes following Open House; Aug. 17 – Fall Sports practices begin for 7th and 8th grade students.
Tax Rate Hearing and School Board Meeting are at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17.
A proposal was discussed for the installation of exhaust fans and vents in the gymnasium with no action being taken.
The board accepted a bid for propane for MFA Oil and Propane of Maysville; and dairy products from Hiland Dairy of St. Joseph.
Meal prices were raised $.05 as mandated by the Federal Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010. The district will continue to have to comply until average lunch prices reach $2.70.
New prices are elementary breakfast $1.20; HS and adult $1.20; reduced breakfast $.30; elementary lunch $2.10; HS and adult $2.35. Reduced lunch $.40; extra milk is $.25.
