The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education approved financing for the new middle school building project during their regular meeting held July 16. The total financing amount selected was $790,000 with a repayment period of 15 years.
The board’s decision followed a lease certificate of participation public hearing held prior to the regular meeting. Superintendent Bryan Copple explained the purpose of the hearing and that a new middle school was the reason for the funding. Dr. Bruce Johnson with L.J. Hart and Company, a firm that primarily underwrites the issuance of bonds for Missouri school districts and counties, explained the lease hearing notice review. This included questions on the financing structures, lease purchase specifics, and intent resolution explanation. Four funding options were presented and discussed, before the hearing was opened up for questions from the public.
A ground breaking ceremony was held July 3 for the middle school; the project is scheduled for completion on March 19, 2016.
In other business at the July 16 meeting, the new employee list was announced: Dr. Bryan Copple Superintendent; Tiffany Otto Middle School Principal; Becky Morris Special Education Director; Michelle Anthuis Librarian; Susan Allen Kindergarten Teacher; Courtney Treece 2nd Grade Teacher; Sydney Elbert 4th Grade Teacher; Ida Kemper 5th Grade Teacher; Theresa Hamilton Aide; Jennifer Youtsey Aide.
