John Roger McKiddy, 86, of Jamesport, died July 5, 2015, in Liberty Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, at the United Methodist Church in Jamesport. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McWilliams Funeral Home in Jamesport where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamesport First Responders or the Jamesport United Methodist Church in care of the Funeral Home.
He was born in rural Livingston County on Dec. 6, 1928, to Delbert Earl and Pearl Jesse (Moore) McKiddy. He was the middle child of 11 children: Ruth Houghton, of Manhattan, Kan.; Edgar Franklin (Frank); Gene Grimes; Delbert Jr.; Kenneth Clarence; John; Honor Booker of Payson, Ariz.; James Raymond; Lois Swain of Chillicothe; Richard Wayne of Chula; and Billy David.
John attended rural schools in Livingston County, Wheeling, and Lock Springs, and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1947. He was baptized as a youth in the Christian Church of Lock Springs and later joined United Methodist Church of Jamesport.
He joined the US Navy in June 1947, where he served for 5 years. Stationed in San Diego, he crossed the Pacific Ocean several times in boats, from tug boats to destroyers. After the Navy he farmed for many years in the area.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, a loyal friend and a good neighbor. Always ready to help in any way, including 4-H and FFA fairs and programs.
He was married Jan. 28, 1952, to Daisy Call in Harrison, Ark. She survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, John Thomas (Leanna) McKiddy, Daniel D. (Sherry) McKiddy, both of Jamesport, and one daughter, Sara Littrell of Richland, 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of whom were his favorites.
