The Northwest Delegation of the Silver Haired Legislature (NWDSHL) met June 18 at the Area Agency on Aging office in Cameron. Delegates from Daviess County were Troy Lesan and Shirley Leakey. John Murphy from Maysville was re-elected as president of the regional delegation.
SHL members welcomed Missouri Representatives J. Eggleston and Pat Conway who addressed the assembly. They were joined by Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging Executive Director Rebecca Flaherty. After words from the guest speakers, delegates addressed and discussed areas of concern and voted for two priority and five alternate bills to submit to the annual fall Silver Hair Legislative session in Jefferson City.
Priority 1 Increase Funding for Area Agency On Aging Programs and Services
Priority 2 Expand Missouri Healthcare Programs
Alternate 1 Marketplace Fairness (collecting sales tax on internet and catalog sales)
Alternate 2 Requirements for Guardian Ad Litem’s related to representation in Guardian/Conservatorship cases
Alternate 3 Pharmacies to have access to all prescriptions through a Prescription Monitoring Program
Alternate 4 Increase the tax on gasoline to fund MoDOT for bridge and road repair.
Alternate 5 Dual legislation to combine the Silver Alert System with the Amber Alert System.
