The Missouri State Highway Patrol recently announced its 2015 School Bus Inspection results.

Pattonsburg R-2 had a total of five buses inspected with all approved for a 100% approval rating.

Tri-County R-7 had four buses inspected with three approved and one found to be defective.

Gallatin had 11 buses inspected with six approved and five found to be defective.

North Daviess R-3 had four buses inspected with two approved, one defective and one taken out of service.

Winston R-6 has a total of five buses with four rated as defective and one taken out of service.

According to the patrol, school buses were inspected across Missouri between Feb. 2 and May 15 of this year. There were a total of 29 county buses inspected of which 16 were approved or 55%.

Buses having one or more defective items which pose no threat to the safety of students are rated as “defective.” There were 11 such buses in this year’s inspections across the county or 38%

Buses with one or more defective items which may compromise the safe transportation of students are rated as “out-of-service.” Inspectors found two of those in Daviess County school districts or 7%.

The patrol states that buses rated as “defective” may continue to operate to transport students until the repairs are made. School districts are allowed 10 days following the initial inspection to repair the identified defects before being re-inspected by patrol’s motor vehicle inspection personnel.

Buses placed “out-of-service” must be repaired and then re-inspected and placed back into service by patrol personnel prior to being used for transporting pupils. Buses that are not presented for re-inspection within the required 10-day period are reported to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

According to the patrol, a total of 11,986 school buses were inspected across Missouri. Of all buses inspected, 10,579 or 88.3% were approved initially by inspectors, meaning no defective items were noted during inspection. There were 1,150 or 9.6% defective buses in this year’s inspections across the state. Inspectors found 257 or 2.1% of the buses rated as “out of service.”
