The Daviess County Health Department (DCHD) was able to purchase several life jackets for all the county’s pools through the Maternal and Child Health Grant. The certified U.S. Coast Guard life jackets came in several sizes and colors.

The health department received the federally funded grant through The Department of Health and Senior Services. The focus of this year’s grant is to prevent and reduce unintentional injury.

“We knew there was a need for life jackets at the pools and wanted to focus on this safety issue for our county,” said Cheryl Alexander, administrator at DCHD.

It is recommended that all children and adults take a swimming class; but if you have not taken a class and you do not know how to swim you should always wear a life jacket. A drowning can happen in a matter of seconds. Be safe.
