Amy Hudlemeyer, Jamie Tummons and Levi Alden, all of Gallatin High School, have earned a chance to compete in the Dodge City Missouri High School Rodeo State Finals in Columbia. Amy will participate in pole bending. Jamie will participate in cutting, goat tying, barrels and poles. Levi will compete in steer wrestling and team roping.
Gallatin R-5 graduate Rochelle Davitt was a member of the Peru State Bobcat women’s basketball team that compiled an outstanding GPA of 3.596. The PSC women’s basketball team was recently honored as Jerry Watson Award winners for the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The award is named in honor of the former faculty athletic representative of the College of the Ozarks, who was tragically killed in a plane crash in the fall of 1999.

Two faithful employees of Community Ambulance District were honored Thursday night during a special board meeting. District secretary-treasurer Jim Mead and ambulance attendant Jim Wilson were recognized for 20 years service.
Aimee E. Yates of Kansas City is participating in the filming of the Robert Altman production of “Kansas City.” Aimee’s parents, Tom and Karen Rogers, and grandparents, Harry and Nadine Brandenburg, all of Lake Viking, visited her on the set in northeast Kansas City on Saturday.

Mandy Johnson of the Gallatin FHA chapter, was elected to the position of first vice-president at the annual FHA/HERO State Leadership Conference held at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Sophomore pitcher Judy Favor of Gilman City lettered in softball this past fall at Culver-Stockton College in Canton. She also received an award for Most Valuable Player and for leading the team with the highest batting average.

Larry J. Dickinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Dickinson of Jamesport, received the Doctor of Osteopathy Degree conferred by the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine during ceremonies at Kirksville, June 2. Dr. Dickinson is a native of Jamesport and a Gallatin High School graduate.
Sherri Caraway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Caraway of Gallatin, has been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Girls State of Missouri, to be held at Stephens College in Columbia.

After an informal opening last Saturday, Hammond’s Coin Operated Laundry and Car Wash will celebrate its Grand Opening with door prizes to enhance the occasion. The new laundry is located at highways 6 and 13, just east of Lynch’s Thrif-Tee Market.
Dr. James Barton, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Barton of Gallatin, received his DDS Degree May 29 from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental College, ranking scholastically in the top ten percent of his class.

Davis Drug Company will observe its 100th birthday on Thursday, June 16. In fact, the drug store was established two years prior to the official incorporation of Gallatin. Harfield and Robert Davis represent the fourth generation of the Davis family to run the store. The first apothecary shop owned here by Baalis Davis was in the back room of a two-room cabin in 1855. The building now housing the drug store was constructed in 1871.
Cadet Sgt. Robert L. Macy, Jr., Gallatin, received the Reserve Officers Association Award at Missouri University for the Outstanding Army cadet in the sophomore course, based upon University grades and military aptitude. Macy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Macy, Sr., of Gallatin.

Before the largest crowd yet assembled to hear him, W. D. (Douglas) McDonald, Jr., gave his account of the 37 months he, his wife and two children spent in Santo Tomas Japanese Internment Camp in Manila. The address to the Daviess County Chapter of American War Dads drew more than 400 persons to hear his talk.
Pfc. Homer S. Long, Jr., of Gallatin, was recently presented the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in action during combat duty in Eastern France. Pfc. Long mad six trips to a forward observation post in the strongly fortified town of Bitche, carrying rations and supplies and evacuating casualties across an open field covered by intense enemy sniper fire.
