John Owen Mason, 90, of Lee’s Summit, died May 16, 2015. He was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Jamesport, the son of Dewey and Lola Mason.

He married Helen J. Chadwick on March 25, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles Mason.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran, having been wounded in battle on Iwo Jima. After working for 43 years at General Motors, he retired in 1988. He was a member of Raytown Masonic Lodge # 391.
Survivors include his wife Helen, of the home; two sons, William D. (Linda) of Lee’s Summit, and John D (Jeanne) of Indio, Calif.; three grandchildren, Air Force Tech Sgt. Grant Mason of Lee’s Summit, and Marissa and Megan Mason of Indio, Calif.; one brother, Paul Mason of Lee’s Summit.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675 or St Luke’s United Methodist Church, 9420 James A Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.
Memorial service will be Tuesday, May 26, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service, all at the Langsford Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Vermillion Cemetery in Vermillion, Kan., at a later date.
