For the second year in a row, the Active Aging Resource Center of Gallatin benefitted from the fundraising efforts of sponsors Allison Spidle of RE/MAX Town and Country, Greg Houghton of The Good One Grill and Smoker Products, and a team of good volunteer helpers. The event, held at the Lake Viking Clubhouse, featured music, mingling, and the tasting of five wines paired with five courses of excellent food, most of it cooked by Houghton on his Good One made by Landmark Manufacturing.
There were approximately 100 people in attendance at the event, which was emceed by Ron Spidle and also featured a silent auction. When attendees signed in, they were each given a key, only one of which would open the mystery lockbox. As it turned out Mandi Bird drew the lucky key which opened the Tiffany’s mystery jewelry box and took home a $700 pearl necklace.
Mandi wasn’t the only winner. At the end of the evening, Allison Spidle presented a check for $850 (with $350 more coming in later) to Deanna Lewis for the home delivered meal program. While the program, also known as Meals on Wheels, enjoys wide community support and is partially funded by state aid, there is always a funding gap particularly in the summer at the end of the fiscal year.
Deanna was grateful to Allison and her hardworking volunteers, while those in attendance were grateful for the evening’s menu. It was a win-win situation for all concerned.
Anyone wishing to support the home delivered meal program, or the meals program at the senior center, can send a donation to: ATTN Deanna Lewis, Active Aging Resource Center, 109 S. Main Street, Gallatin, Mo., 64640.
