Second Harvest Community Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers is preparing for the 23rd Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. USPS employees and customers across America have contributed more than one billion pounds of non-perishable food to feed the hungry since this effort began in 1992. This year, the drive will take place on Saturday, May 9.

This year, residents will receive yellow sacks in the mail the week before, thanks to the generous support of KCP&L, HyVee, Feeding Missouri and Second Harvest. It’s easy to participate, all someone has to do is leave a bag of non-perishable food items by their mailbox on May 9 prior to general pickup. A list of suggested items is on the back of the yellow sack. Your letter carrier will come by, pick it up and make sure it’s delivered to Second Harvest or your local partner agency.
In our region, more than 40,000 pounds of food was collected last year which can provide over 34,000 meals to the estimated 54,130 food insecure people in Second Harvest’s 19 county service area.
