Gilbert was born March 30, 1933, the son of Tom and Katie (Latimer) Parker in Stigler, Okla., where he was raised and attended school. He was united in marriage to Nora Smith, Jan. 26, 1952, in Huntsville, Ark. The couple moved to Kansas City and started their family.  Gilbert was employed at the Payway Feed Mill where he dedicated 20 years of service, retiring in 1972. In 1965 Gilbert and Nora purchased a farm near Gallatin and he continued to work in the city. After retirement Gilbert had a dairy herd and milked cows for many years; he was no stranger to hard work and caring for his cattle kept him very busy. Gilbert left the farm and moved to Altamont where he resided for 10 years.

Gilbert greatly enjoyed being outdoors and in his spare time you would find him saddling up his horse and riding for hours. He enjoyed working in his flower garden and looked forward to spring when his peonies would bloom. He loved spending time with his family; his grandchildren were his pride and joy; always looking forward to their visits and wanting them to stay longer. His dog Darlene was his companion and always at his side, you rarely saw one without the other. Gilbert was a loving father, grandfather and brother who was an inspiration to those who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nora in 2004, daughter, Jeannie Burnett, brothers, Raymond, Jesse, Wilbert and Bert, and three great-grandchildren.

Gilbert is survived by his daughters, Ellia Eaton and husband Randy of Altamont, Gail Holt and husband John of Winston, Kay Lawson of Hallsville; sons, Brian Parker and wife Jenny of Melford, Utah, J.R. Parker and wife Teresa of Bethany; brothers, Sam Parker, Bill Parker and wife Mary, Jack Parker and wife Margaret all of Gallatin, John Parker and wife Lana of Kansas City; sisters Alta McQueen of Kansas City, Wilma Royster of Westminster, Calif., Ellen Ault and husband Charles of Independence; son-in-law, Mike Burnett of Altamont; friends and caretakers, Dale and Evelyn Redman of Altamont; nineteen grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog Darlene.
