Joe Berra, Jail Management and Records Management System Coordinator for the Missouri Sheriff’s Association (MSA), gave a presentation on a jail management system at the meeting of the jail board held March 27, and during a conference call the board held further discussions with him at their April 24 meeting. As coordinator, Mr. Berra is responsible for the implementation of the MSA’s software project across the State of Missouri. The association’s project model is the first of its kind in the country. The jail management system will allow sheriffs to electronically tap into or share information on inmates in real time, something that currently is not possible in many county jails. The cost of the management system for the Pattonsburg jail depends on several factors, such as bed count, Live Scan, Iris, etc. Mr. Berra will try to have dollar amounts for the board by next week.

The jail now has an Originating Agency Identification (ORI) number. An ORI is a nine character identifier assigned to an agency that has met the established qualifying criteria for a fingerprint based background check. The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be notified in order to select the people and the training.
The board agreed to buy a 2005 Dodge Transportation van from St. Genevieve County for $8,000. St Genevieve is waiting for their new van to arrive before they release the old van, by the middle of May.
The financial report was accepted. Sales tax income for March was $79,203.72; Commissary grossed $15,447.71; CD Account balance is $235,909.24; Sales Tax Account balance is $313,735.37; Operating Account balance is $11,293.24; Payroll Account balance is $92.91. A refund check from MOPERM Insurance was received in the amount of $2,783.39.
Pepper Spray Training began April 24. Other training will be held later.
Pattonsburg R-2 High School tours will hopefully be held next year.
Ed Howard is waiting for an updated list of the records the jail can destroy.
Mr. Howard is going to the Jail Administrative Conference May 5-8. First day’s topic is Jail Standards, second day is Medical, third day is PREA. (The Prison Rape Elimination Act is a federal law enacted in 2003, created to eliminate sexual abuse in confinement.) The conference will be put on by the Missouri Sheriffs Association.
The jail is getting ready to send out the “Request For Proposals” to vendors for next year.
