Leaders of the National High School Rodeo Association, the oldest youth rodeo organization in America, appointed Levi Alden of Gallatin to the Wrangler All-Star Rodeo Team, the first-ever corporate-sponsored youth rodeo team.

Brittney Hixson will be representing the Gallatin FBLA Chapter at the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL, June 24-27. Brittney was appointed to serve as President of the Missouri Parliamentary Procedures Team during the 2005 Missouri FBLA Leadership Conference in Columbia.

Missouri Western junior Brice Garnett claimed his second consecutive MIAA Tournament title Tuesday at Blue Springs Country Club.

April 19, 1995

A vision of the newly located Daviess County Library building has been prepared in architectural design by Reed Architects of Liberty. County Librarian Jan Johnson unveiled floor plans to renovate the Blackburn building, formerly housing a car dealership, yesterday during a luncheon meeting of the Gallatin Rotary Club.

The North Daviess Academic Team was the runnerup in the District Tournament held at Osborn. The team defeated Albany, Stewartsville, Osborn and Union Star but lost to Pattonsburg. Jeremy Hunter and Philip Courter made the All-District Academic Team. Alyssa Elder and Jennifer Hoyle were also on the North Daviess team.

April 24, 1985

GHS football cheerleaders selected during recent tryouts are Sheri Fales, Heather Reynolds, Scherryl Tague, Lainie Rogers, Candice Love and Melanie McLaughlin. Basketball cheerleaders are Christie Froman, Heather Reynolds, Julie Vyrostek, Lainie Rogers, Larissa Pendleton and Jacqueline Thompson. Wrestling cheerleaders are Kerri Englin, Candice Love, Scherryle Tague and Jennifer Battles.

Junior Syd Weybrew set a new school record in the shot, throwing 46-11 ½ to win first place at the highly competitive Mules Relays held at CMSU in Warrensburg.

April 24, 1975

It took a long time to build the railroad bridge for the Rock Island across Grand River east of town in 1916, but it took only two seconds to pull it off its piers to crash in twisted heaps in the sand. The entire branch line between St. Joseph and Trenton, some 57 miles and 47 bridges, has been abandoned.

Tom and Betty Cobb, owners of the McDonald Tea Room, have announced they will dispose of the furniture, antiques and personal effects of “Maple Shade,” the home of the late Virginia McDonald.

April 22, 1965

Elizabeth Coon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Coon, has been selected to represent Gallatin in the Apple Blossom Queen Contest. Other entries are Rita Moore, Winston; Edna Smith, Coffey; Linda Burns, Jameson; and Deanna Gould, Jamesport.

The Gallatin High School track team defeated Princeton Tuesday, 66 to 58. High point men were Larry Worrell, 17 ¼ points; Jerry Taylor, 12 ¼ points; and Harold Gooding, 10 points.

April 21, 1955

Pupils of the Johnson School, located east of Gallatin, are: Caroline Cox, Martha Hemry, Larry Whitt, Kelso Naylor, Jimmie Watson, Donald Ray Whitt, Don Hemry and Johnnie Watson. Mrs. Virginia Tomlinson is their teacher.

Gallatin is mentioned 37 times, second only to another small town in Iowa, in the book “Main Street On The Middle Border,” a copy of which is now available at the Daviess County Library.
