The PRNDL on my vehicle is broken. You may not know what an automotive PRNDL is but almost every car has one. It’s that little gauge just over your steering wheel, usually a slightly arched shape, that plainly reads PRNDL. It could easily be a Hebrew word for the Hebrew language usually omits the vowels. This is very confusing to the reader who must select his/her own vowels. However, it is not nearly as confusing as reading right to left; but I digress, back to the PRNDL.

ShepherdCalls_WPThe PRNDL is there to indicate which gear the car is using: P for park, R for reverse, N for neutral, D for drive, and L for low. Wait, let me be more specific. It is not the PRNDL itself that is broken; but the little red thingy, the indicator, that points to the gear you are supposed to be using.

In my vehicle, when the red indicator indicates R or reverse, you are in fact in Park. When it indicates N or neutral, you are in reverse. The letter D has now become neutral, and the L low is in reality drive, or forward. It is very confusing. You might want to get a pencil and write all this down especially if, like me, you own a black ’98 Ford Ranger with more than 200,000 miles.

Let me say it another way to help you understand. In my truck if you want to go forward, you put the PRNDL in L low, if you want to sit still you put it in D drive, if you want to go backward you must indicate N neutral; and if you just want to park your car and leave it, you select R reverse. Got it?

What I have just explained is absolutely true. I have not embellished it. It is stupidly true, unfortunately true. It reminds me of how some people read God’s word.

For example, the Bible says, “Be sure your sin will find you out.” People often think that only refers to the major sins like murder. What? Jesus said, “When you help the least of humanity, you have helped Me.” But, people think He didn’t mean for us to help folk who don’t help themselves. Huh?

God’s Word is the best indicator on how to live. However, if you keep moving that indicator to suit yourself, then your PRNDL will be off and take you astray.
