Gallatin R-5 senior Chris Barnes received first place for his photograph in Best of Show at the North Central Missouri College Art Show held recently. Chris received a $350 scholarship to NCMC at Trenton.
Many bidders were interested in the beautiful old pews which were offered for sale at the auction held at the old Christian Church building in Gallatin. The majority of the pews were purchased by the Kellerton, Iowa, Christian Church for $175 each.
The Gallatin Bulldogs continue to master visiting teams on the Daviess County Country Club course, beating Hamilton and Lathrop in tri-meet competition to move to 5-0 on the season. Garett Houghton took the medalist award with a 37. Aaron Everly and Dillon Bird tied for runnerup with rounds of 39.

A major addition to the First Baptist Church of Gallatin is under construction. At the time the present building was built in 1972-73, high attendance peaked at 200 persons. Rev. Allen Bartlett leads the congregation today of over 400 members.
Chris Lasher received the office of Area II FFA Parliamentarian at the Area II officer interviews held at Gallatin.
Jennifer Perkins, Gallatin R-5 sophomore, was selected second team honoree to the GRC All-Conference Academic Team.

Don Rains, agriculture engineering specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Service, will be officially retiring on July 1, 1985. Mr. Rains has helped a lot of people in his 30 plus years and many of those years have been working in the Green Hills area.
Gallatin’s boys won their first major track meet championship in years last Thursday during the 19-team field of the annual Gallatin Relays. The bulk of Gallatin’s 65 team points were scored by distance runner Curtis Reed and junior Syd Weybrew in the field events.

A teaching career spanning 43 years is coming to an end for Mrs. Lawrence (Linda) Holley of the Jameson School, who will retire at the close of this school year. Perhaps even more significant, it will mark the end of the Holley family’s association with Jameson R-3 which began in 1937.
Charlynn Brandom of Gallatin won the title of “Miss Trenton 1975” Saturday night in the pageant competition before a crowd of 700 persons. She competed against 11 other contestants.
April 15, 1965
Students of the R-5 eighth grade planted a Sunburst Locust tree in the school yard Tuesday afternoon in a brief ceremony. Terry Critten served as master of the ceremony; class president Junior Stith also spoke, pointing out that the planting was a tradition set by earlier eight graders.
PTA officers installed for the coming year are: Robert Whetstone, president; Carroll Parks, vice president; Mary Lee Froman, secretary; and Jean Hamilton, treasurer.

Miss Rita Gatenby, a Gallatin High School sophomore, has won first prize in the VFW Auxiliary essay contest on “What Civil Defense Means To Me.”
Pupils of the Mt. Pleasant School are: Martha Lee Saul, Marvin E. Saul, Melvin Saul, Larry Dean Saul, Bill Bear, Michael Ehly, Karen White, Betty Elaine Saul, Nathan Guess and Charlotte Martin. Their teacher is Mrs. Emma Guess.

Pvt. Lloyd L. Holcomb was killed in action on Iwo Jima volcanic island, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Holcomb of Kansas City. The many friends of this young man will deeply regret hearing of his death.
Word, which has not been officially confirmed, has reached Attorney and Mrs. O. O. Mettle that their son, Pfc. Harold Mettle, has been killed in action in the Philippines. Harold was one of Gallatin’s popular young men.
