Graveside service and burial for Elmer Lupfer will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at the McFall Cemetery. Memorial contributions: Sheriff Lupfer Scholarship Fund in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, Mo., 64402. Funeral service will be April 8 at the Albany R-3 High School.
Elmer Eugene Lupfer, 74, Albany, died on April 2, 2015, at Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1940, in Santa Rosa, the oldest son of Elmer Ikey and Dorothy (Huff) Lupfer. His parents preceded him in death.
Gene attended McFall Elementary and Pattonsburg High School, graduating in 1958.
On May 29, 1960, he married Joyce Carter. They were married 54 years until her death on Nov. 19, 2014. They lived in McFall the first 20 years of their marriage where they owned and operated Lupfer Grocery and Feed Store.
Gene was very active in the McFall Lions Club and managed the McFall Lions men fast pitch softball team for many years. He served several years as mayor of McFall and president of the Lions Club. In 1980, the Lupfers moved to Albany, and in the fall of 1980, Gene was elected Gentry County Sheriff. He served for 28 years, retiring in 2008. Gene was an active member of the Missouri Sheriffs Association.
The Lupfers were the parents of six daughters, and opened their home to a dozen foster children.
Survivors include six daughters, Kimberly Stimson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Lisa (David) McGhee, New Hampton, Tammy (Blaine) Siddens, Albany, Michelle Lupfer, Springfield, Melanie Lupfer, Des Moines, Iowa, Melissa (Matt) Brennan, Largo, Fla.; brother, Jack (Carol) of Albany; 21 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
