During their March 18 meeting, the Pattonsburg R-23 Board of Education approved the 2015-16 Certified Salary Schedule which added $750 to the base and added one step to the bottom for experience on the certified salary schedule. The 2015-16 base salary will be $28,000. This is a 3.27% increase for returning staff. Non-certified staff and employees not on the salary schedule will receive the 3.27% increase to their wages.

Following executive session, the board approved the list and offered contracts to all certified staff for the 2015-16 school year.
The board accepted the resignations of Tanya Barlett, special education teacher, and Lacey Henry, counselor.
The board offered a contract for 2015-16 to Angela McCrary. She will teach the second kindergarten class next year.
Board of Education candidates for the April 7 election are incumbent Pam Plymell, Lyle Hoover and Ben DeJong. Three people are running for two positions.
The board continued discussion on long term facilities planning and classroom space issue and is looking at options to add to the facilities to address the increased enrollment over the past few years as well as the future.
The board was updated on maintenance issues and technology/network upgrades.
Students recognized for demonstrating the character trait of honesty were: Leah Jessop, kindergarten; Kaylor Hodge, first grade; Billy Wyatt, second grade; Sam Fredricks, third grade; Jenna Heath, fourth grade; Malakai Tuumalo, fifth grade; and Cooper Teel, sixth grade.
Approximately 100 mothers and grandmothers came in for muffins at breakfast time on March 10. There was nearly $2,500 in book sales at the book fair.
Mr. Hodge reported that the Varsity Academic Team is 4-2 this season with another round of games; 10 students are participating.
FFA competitions are in full swing. This year’s teams are in the following areas of interest: Livestock, Ag Mechanics, Meats, Entomology and Farm Management.

The board discussed policies regarding attendance of students who are eligible for graduation honors. The board reviewed procedures from several area schools. We will draft a couple policies and present a recommendation at the next board meeting. These policies address how many semesters of attendance a student must attend to be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian. These policies may also address how weighted credits from other schools are accepted.
