Gallatin’s offensive struggles carried into the post season as witnessed by a  27% shooting night that led to a 53-39 loss to Hamilton in the Class 2, District 16 semifinal.

“I felt like we were playing really good basketball up until the Hamilton Tournament semifinal,” said GHS boys coach Brent Burke. “We really struggled from that point on and our struggles carried into the post season as we had trouble scoring,”

The Bulldogs came out against the Hornets with junior forward Harris Cameron as the offensive emphasis and he tallied his team’s first six points and dished out assists when the defense tried to clog the lane. Gallatin trailed by only three points, 28-25, at the break, but the second half told a different story.

The Hornets continued consistent scoring in the third and fourth periods but the Bulldogs could manage only five points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth.

Cameron led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jacob Boyd contributed 12 points in his final high school game.

Gallatin’s season ended at 17-9, including a 6-3 showing in the Grand River Conference.

“I think we had a successful year, winning our own tournament and getting into the Lawson Tournament championship game for the first time in many years,” said Coach Burke. “I am proud of where this class of seniors was able to get to,” he added. “They really worked well together and tried to make the most of what we had and were a pleasure to coach.”

Coach Burke is excited about the future of GHS boys’ basketball, as well.

“I like what I have seen from the development of our underclassmen,” he stated. “I think they are ahead of where I first projected them to be at his point and that is a good sign for future competitive teams.”
