Pattonsburg’s Megan Crone ties up a loose ball with a King City player.

The Lady Panthers worked hard to keep the lead in overtime, but did so without their all-time leading scorer Kelly Warford, who fouled out trying for a shot block with less than 10 seconds left in regulation. King City’s Grace Schotel went to the free throw line, hit the first only of a two-shot foul to send the game into the extra period.

Plymell hit a bank shot off a spin move in the lane to give the Lady Panthers a 48-46 lead, but Lady Wildkat Hannah Wood executed the same move on the other end of the floor. King City took the lead on a pair of free throws but Plymell scored off the dribble to tie the game once again.

Schotel stole the ball with 41 seconds remaining and hit a layup. Pattonsburg came down and missed three straight shots at the basket before fouling King City’s Riley Eiberger. She missed both attempts but the Lady Panthers turned the ball over on their next possession. Shae Gilbert went to the line for the Lady Wildkats and hit the second of a double bonus to put her team in front, 53-50.

Another turnover forced the Lady Panthers to foul Schotel, who hit one of two to make it a two-possession game with six seconds left. Shelbey Dilley drew a foul on a baseline drive and hit one of two at the line to account for the final margin.

Warford and Plymell combined to give the Lady Panthers an 8-0 lead off the opening tip, but King was able to close to within 13-10 at the close of the first quarter, and take a 19-17 lead at the break.

Pattonsburg led by as many as five points, 37-32, early in the fourth quarter but the King City turned the tables for a 43-40 advantage with less than a minute to play in regulation.

Plymell grabbed a loose ball after a missed shot and drew a foul. She nailed both free throws. The PHS junior gave her team a one-point lead with 13 seconds left on a four-foot jumper, but King City sent the game to OT with Schotel’s free throw.

Plymell finished with a game-high 19 points. Warford tallied 18 points in four quarters of play.
