Phyllis was born Aug. 26, 1934, to Marvin and Ruth (Paxton) Brown in Independence, and attended school in Kansas City. She was united in marriage to Jack Gibbens; he preceded her in death in 1999.
Phyllis was a cook at the senior center for many years and served as a volunteer at the front desk, she also drove for Meals on Wheels. She was a manager of the snack bar at the bowling alley in Liberty where she and Jack enjoyed the time they spent participating on bowling leagues. She was always eager to help in any capacity.

Phyllis was a great cook and enjoyed preparing a meal for family and friends. You could find her on Thursday nights playing cards with friends, she also liked to dance. Phyllis was a social person who made lasting relationships wherever she went.
As her health failed and she had to give up her independence, Phyllis accepted her time in assisted living as an opportunity to help others with small tasks or just lend a listening ear. She adored her grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. Phyllis was committed to her family and was always there to brighten their lives. She was an inspiration to those who knew and loved her and will be greatly missed.
