Dean B. Merrigan, 89, Coffey, passed away at his home on Feb. 19, 2015, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was born on June 6, 1925, to Thomas and Marceline (Hill) Merrigan in Clyde, Mo. He graduated from Winston High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy shortly thereafter to serve his country in WWII. He went on to serve in the Asiatic Pacific Theater on the USS Abatanas a Carpenter’s Mate 3rd Class.

On June 4, 1952, he married Violet Smith and she survives of the home. Dean worked at Trenton Foods for over 25 years while also pursuing his love of farming with John Deere tractors and Dodge trucks. Always ready to extend a helping hand to all who knew him and with his signature quick wit and twinkle in his eye, he was beloved by many. Dean and Violet enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., wintering in Texas, and most of all, spending time with loved ones.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, beloved Uncle Bill and Aunt Nora, infant sister, sisters Margie and Carol, and brothers Jack and Jerry, and nephews Ricky Merrigan and Steve Keller.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Don (Virginia) of Kansas City; sons, Tom (Penny) of Pattonsburg, and Greg (Brenda) of Indianola, Iowa; two daughters, Christine Merrigan of Savannah, and Mary Beth (Alan) of Ashland. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ethan (Blair) Merrigan, Logan Merrigan, Mat Merrigan, Megan Merrigan, Justin Marrs, and Brooklyn Marrs, as well as one great-grandson, Jack Merrigan, and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was at Blessed Sacrament Church, Bethany. Burial with military honors followed at St. Munchins Catholic Cemetery, Cameron.
