Jamie Brinnen has been selected as the Northwest District essay winner in the Missouri State High School Activities Association Middle Level Sportsmanship Essay Contest. This year’s subject was “What Should Schools Do To Promote Sports?”

Just a few paces south of Highway 6 near Muddy Creek east of Gallatin, workers are busy constructing a new water well for Gallatin. Drillers spent two days last week to reach the optimum depth of nearly 125 feet where a plentiful water source is available.
Gallatin High School senior Priscilla Warnes penned an agreement Tuesday to play softball next season for Culver-Stockton College in Canton. Priscilla is a two-time all-Grand River Conference pitcher.

Three generations of nursing are represented by one Gallatin family. Mrs. Cynthia Alene Thomas started the string by becoming an LPN in 1955. Her son, Jim Pierce, has been an RN since 1975. Her granddaughter, Mrs. Cynthia Lorene (Lori) Kloepping, completed her nurse training as an LPN in 1983.
Three Daviess County students, Victor Marolf, Steven Huffman and Anita McNeely, have been nominated for the state’s first Missouri Scholars Academy to be held on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia.

The Gallatin City Council Monday night approved an agreement with the Inter-County Telephone Company which provides for the joint participation of the city and the company in the use of poles. This move paves the way for early action on the installation of Gallatin’s new dial telephone system.

Some months ago, the Ministerial Alliance, here, began their plans for a V-Day religious celebration. When Germany surrenders, union services will be held at the Christian Church. Should the surrender occur on Saturday, services will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scott of near Jamesport have recently received two letters from their son, S/Sgt. Charles H. Scott, who has been a German prisoner since January 1944. Sgt. Scott, a gunner in the Army Air Corps, went down over enemy territory on his 14th mission. He has been awarded the air medal, oak leaf cluster and all of his group were awarded a Presidential citation the day they were shot down.
