A number of residents from Daviess County joined others from Northwest Missouri in Jefferson City on Feb. 3 to represent our county and region. Over 250 residents met to inform our state’s legislators and government offices about the special accomplishments and needs of the northwest part of Missouri.

Tuesday, February 3, Representative J. Eggleston was able to arrange a meeting with a Great Northwest Days member from Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry and Harrison Counties to sit down with House Floor Leader Todd Richardson so they could share their ideas. Rep. Richardson was gracious to give Representative Eggleston’s group about an hour to hear the concerns of the county representatives, which was a special opportunity to speak with a high ranking member of the House of Representatives. Joining Representative Eggleston were Bethany Mayor, Patrick Miller; King City Manor rep, Angela McQuinn; Gallatin City Administrator, Zac Johnson; and Maysville dairy businessman, Paul Hamby. Funding from this trip came from Daviess County Commissioner’s Office, the county library, Jamesport Community Association, Cities of Gallatin, Jamesport, Pattonsburg, Jameson and Winston, and the volunteers that attended: Linda and Mike Bohannon, Zac Johnson, Gene Walker, Misty and Wayne Scott, Marshall Hopkins and Sue Olson (Steering Committee). There were others that helped but could not attend: Trudi Burton, Denise Patterson, Gail Ladesma.

Our Daviess County booth had brochures (Jamesport, Daviess County, Squirrel Jail, Clock Tower, and many businesses), gifts from many area businesses, and the grand prize trophy for Jameson’s Betterment Committee award. Over 20 gifts were given to attendees by texting cell phones for gift winners and giving them a choice of their prize. Merchants that donated include Elbert’s, Mi Mexico, Dungy’s Market, Morrell Legacy Farm, Sue’s Soft Stuff, Farm House Collections, Simply Primitive, Downhome Connections, Natural Difference, The Collection, Carlton’s, Sherwood Quilts and Oakridge Furniture, Jameson Betterment Committee, and H&M.

J. Eggleston (our House representative) was drawn as a winner and selected a large wooden bowl filled with baking supplies and tools from H&M. Dan Hegeman (our Senate representative) also stopped by the booth for a photo opportunity. For more information about this event, contact the attendees or go to www.greatnorthwestday.com.
