Gallatin varsity teams advanced to the semifinal round with victories Monday in the Hamilton Tournament, but neither team found the path to Thursday games an easy one to follow.

Gallatin’s Madison Rounkles sets up for a shot against Lathrop in early action Monday night at the Hamilton Tournament.
The fourth-seeded Lady Bulldogs needed a come-from-behind effort in the fourth quarter to dispatch Lathrop, 41-39. Likewise, the Bulldog boys needed all 32 minutes to defeat Lathrop, 50-45, in the nightcap.
Gallatin’s third-seeded boys opened up a double digit lead in the third quarter only to see Lathrop charge back to within one point with two minutes to play. No lead proved to be safe as the lead seesawed back and forth in the first quarter and underwent eight more lead changes in the second period.
The game hung in the balance with 1:18 to play when Jacob Boyd drove the baseline from the corner and put up a layup that missed, but Harris Cameron grabbed the rebound and got the putback to give the Bulldogs a 48-45 lead.
Harris later iced the game by hitting two of four free throws, the last coming after a defensive rebound with 10 seconds remaining. Colten Beck also notched some key free throws throughout the contest that kept Gallatin in the driver’s seat.
Harris finished with a double-double, 25 points and 17 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will face Hamilton in the 9 p.m. game on Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed, 19-11, after the opening period, and 21-15 at half before making their move late in the third quarter.
Tristyn Siegel nailed a three-pointer to cut the margin to 26-25. Kailey Salmon put back a missed layup, then added a trey to give Gallatin its first lead since the first quarter.
With 3:42 to play, Salmon picked up a loose ball and hit a bunny shot to stretch the GHS advantage to 32-30. A Taylor Sloan shot block led to a Bailey Maxwell free throw and 35-30 score.
Seconds later, Maxwell would roll her left ankle on the defensive end and need assistance getting to the bench. She did not return.
Lathrop’s Isabel Maddick kept her team in contention with a pair of treys down the stretch. With four seconds left, Maddick found herself trapped on a drive under the basket. With nowhere to go, she dumped the ball off into the hands of Salmon, who held the ball as the horn sounded.
Salmon scored 11 points in a five-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to lead her team to victory. Siegel finished with 10 points in the win.
The Lady Bulldogs face a rematch with Hamilton at 4:30 on Thursday.
