The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education extended Superintendent Troy Clawson’s contract through the 2016-17 school year during their meeting held Jan. 21. The board also accepted letters of resignation from Becky Morris, special education director, and Kyla Berry, second grade teacher.

The board reviewed a proposal from the Grand River Conference for expansion to provide for small/large school divisions. Following discussion, the board voted to petition to join the Grand River Conference beginning with the 2016-17 school year.

Mr. Clawson updated the board on a successful HDC Conference Basketball Tournament hosted at Pattonsburg Dec. 12-19 and progress on the school new website. The new website should be online in a couple weeks.

Mrs. Cornett reported the following students were selected for demonstrating “compassion”: kindergarten: Jayden Goble; first grade: Gavin Humphrey; second grade: Kinsley Johnson; third grade: Sam Fredricks; fourth grade: Sieriah Eckert; fifth grade: Kadence Shipers; and sixth grade: Melanie Rogers.

Chief Mark Richards from the Gallatin Police Department will be instructing fifth and sixth grade students on the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (DARE). This is a 10 week unit of study that provides children with the information and skills they need to live drug and violence free lives. The classes will begin the week of Jan. 19.

Mr. Hodge’s reported that this year’s senior class will leave PHS with 145 hours of college credit earned in dual credit courses. Mrs. Henry held a financial aid meeting for all seniors on Jan. 8. Pattonsburg’s girls and boys basketball teams will play in the Gilman City Tournament next week. The girls are the #1 seed and the boys are seeded #2.

In new business, the board approved the 2015-16 School Calendar as presented. Present: Patty Hartley, Lincoln Cornett, Jason Teel, Stephanie Mason, Pam Plymell, Laura Booth, Brian Teel, Troy Clawson, Latrinda Snider, Cheryl Cornett.
