The Winston R-6 Board of Education accepted Vicki Woodward’s letter of retirement for the end of the 2014-15 school year during their meeting held Jan. 19. Mrs. Woodward is the family and consumer science teacher. The board approved her for the district’s early notice of resignation incentive.
Discussion about hiring a fifth and sixth grade basketball coach was tabled.
A motion to extend Superintendent Brian Robinson’s contract by one year in order to maintain a three year contract with the district failed. Mr. Robinson has two years remaining on his current three year contract.
Next regular board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
The Winston School District has been awarded a $35,000 grant through the National Clean Diesel Program toward the replacement of two school buses. The district will work with the Environmental Protection Agency over the next few months to fulfill further requirements.
Tax revenue collections through the end of December are ahead of the previous years. After all collections are received in January amendments to the budgeted revenues will be made. Collections were as follows: 2010: $339,203; 2011: $342,480; 2012: $329,854; 2013: $368,877; 2014: $385,604.
The Department of Higher Education announced that students who participate in Missouri’s A+ Scholarship Program will receive tuition reimbursement for all but one credit hour for the spring 2015 semester. Reimbursement is based on tuition and fee costs not covered by federal financial aid. About 14,000 Missouri students are expected to receive funding through the A+ Program during the 2014-15 school year, compared to 12,500 students during the 2013-14 school year.
