The FCCLA Region 2 Officer Screening was held Tuesday at Braymer High School. Katie Patton, Gallatin, was elected Region 2 National Officer candidate. She will now compete in April at State Conference for Missouri’s National Officer candidate.
Ray Depuy of Ireland Adv. and Electric of Chillicothe took 72 hours to do fabrication work in his shop for the new time and temperature sign which now stands on the northeast side of the BTC Bank in Gallatin.

Larry and Sherry Tague are expanding Lake Viking Marine with an 18’x36’ building addition on the east side of the Marine, which will house the business’s Fiberglass shop.
Adam Rhoades and Brett Adkison prevented a shutout of Gallatin High School wrestlers in the medal round of Saturday’s Brookfield Tournament, finishing second and fourth, respectively, in competition among grapplers from eight schools.
Gallatin’s boys rolled to a 93-50 win over Stet in the opening round of the Hamilton Tournament, despite a 41-point effort by Stet’s Craig Gibson. Cody Bird led Gallatin with four three-pointers and 18 points overall.

Kandy Lynn Eads, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eads, has been named a 1985 U. S. National Award winner in art. Kandy was nominated for the award by Mrs. Wake, art teacher at Winston R-6 High School.
A flu epidemic forced cancellation of classes at James R-2 School last Friday. Supt. Robert Dowis reported that 35 of the school’s 98 students were absent on Thursday.
Eric Lewis scored 20 points and was backed by Jeff Hoppenthaler’s 18 points as Winston improved to 14-3 last week with a 65-64 win over Mercer. Lewis hit the front end of a one-and-one with five seconds left to break the tie.

The gym at the new Gallatin High School is nearing completion with painting in progress and floor materials seen stacked in several places. Parts of the new school building will be put to use this Spring but classes will not occupy the building until next fall.

Sunday’s “Dialogue With Litton,” program at the Plaza Inn Hotel near KCI airport drew over 1,600 persons, the largest crowd yet, to hear Cong. Jerry Litton rap with Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz over farm policy.

Jane Blackburn was crowned Gallatin High School basketball Homecoming Queen Saturday night at the high school. Her escort for the red carpet ceremony was Rodney McGinnis.
About 35 representatives from all major civil and cultural groups in Gallatin voted overwhelmingly Thursday night to proceed with plans to initiate the Community Betterment Program for this community. Rotary President Charles Brandom presided over the meeting. The Rotary Club project committee, under the leadership of Junior Hockensmith, arranged for the meeting.

Kenneth Davis, cashier of the Bank of Gallatin, was re-elected president of the Gallatin Industrial Development Corporation at the annual stockholders meeting held Monday morning at City Hall. Al Moore, local furniture dealer, was elected vice president.
Ernie Mehl, Sports Editor of the Kansas City Star, will be the featured speaker at the annual dinner meeting of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Daviess County Library has completed another successful year. Librarian Ina Naylor reported that there were 53,548 books loaned in 1954, making a total of 367,636 books loaned since the library opened in 1947.
Feb. 1, 1945
Kenneth Drummond, S 1/c, was one of 61 out of 175 rescued when his ship, the “Hull,” was capsized off the coast of Luzon in a tropical storm. He spent nearly 13 hours in the water. Seaman Drummond was reared in Jamesport and is the grandson of Mrs. Nancy Drummond of that city.
Coast Guardsman Maurice A. Critten, motor machinist’s mate third class of Gallatin, is now serving aboard a coast guard-manned LST striking at Jap positions in the Pacific.
