Winston’s Redbirds got into early foul trouble and the Osborn Wildkats took advantage of that and a home floor advantage to pull off a 66-55 upset in the championship game of the Osborn Tournament on Saturday.
The loss snapped Winston’s 11-game winning streak and sent the Birds to just their second loss of the season.
“Osborn has a solid team and deserved the win over us by how poorly our defense played and how wonderful their offense took advantage of it,” said WHS Coach Tim Harding.
The Redbirds, now 13-2, allowed a season-high offensive output to the Wildkats and saw three opposing players notch at least 17 points.
Chevy Calhoon scored 18 points for Winston before fouling out. Jordan Leonard added 16 points and Craig Lewis contributed 12 for the Birds.
Winston made it to the title game with Thursday’s 54-26 thrashing of Stewartsville. Leonard led all scorers in the game with 24 points.
