Gallatin varsity wrestlers competed in one of the biggest high school wrestling tournaments in the state last weekend when they traveled to Lexington for the Battle of Lexington Tournament.

The event featured over 30 schools of small to medium size from northwest and mid Missouri and featured several state medalists from a year ago.
Gallatin, which finished a solid eighth in team standings, came home with a pair of tournament champions. Jesse Bundy won a 7-2 decision over Carlos Cubas of Versailles to win the title in the 195-pound weight division. Michael Stanley held on for a tough 5-4 win over Polo’s Wiley Martin to claim the title in the 220-pound weight class.
Wyatt Bird placed fourth in the 132-pound weight class after dropping an 8-4 decision to Adrian’s Zachary Shannon. Caleb Michael narrowly lost to Lexington’s Jace Bertz, 5-4, but finished seventh in the 145-pound class.
Michael McLey beat Zach Phillips of PSDH, 5-1, to finish ninth in the 285-pound weight class. Diego Huerta placed 10th for the Bulldogs in the 120-pound class. Bradley Rhoades finished 11th in the 138-pound weight class by pinning Plattsburg’s Jesse McGee.
The Bulldogs are back in action Jan. 10 at the Marshall Tournament.
