The VFW Post 2172 and Ladies Auxiliary proudly announce the first place winner of the District 1 Competition for the Patriot Pen Essay, Jessi Becerra. Jessi is an eighth grader at the Gallatin R-5 High School. Her parents are Ben and Hope Becerra of Gallatin.
Jessi’s social studies teacher Ryan Beenken encourages his students to participate in the Patriot Pen contest each year to show their patriotism.
Other district winners were as follows, second place Grace Moore, Lawson Middle School, and third place Maggie Pfaff, Bishop Hogan Memorial, Chillicothe.
Jessi will attend district recognition and receive her awards on Jan. 10 at the American Legion Building in Chillicothe. Her essay has gone onto state competition.
The Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy District 1 chairpersons are John Krumpelman of Marceline and Sherri Carder of Gallatin.
