Gallatin First Christian

Our 8:20 a.m. worship service began with opening songs by the Praise Team and Sue Bird. Pastor Russ and Theresa Hamilton presented a children’s message at both services. Pastor Russ read from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 and shared, “Faithful.” At the 10:50 a.m. service Kim Ness served as song leader, Beth Plotner played the organ, and Jeff Dreesen played the keyboard. A special presentation about mission work in Guatemala was presented by Larry Hanby and Milynn Swofford (daughter of Jack and Lois Swofford)—a luncheon was served at noon for those interested in the mission trip in July. Please call the church if you are interested in participating in the mission trip to Guatemala, or if you are willing sponsor a person to go. We have already met our goal of raising $5,500 to build a house in Guatemala!

A worship service was held at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab. Our annual Children’s Christmas program will be Dec. 21 during a combined service at 9:30 a.m. with a special performance by our “Stickin’ with Jesus” group. Santa will meet the children in the fellowship hall following the service and refreshments will be served by the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

Prayer wheel additions this week: Mary Sullenger, Herb Carpenter, and Sue Cox.

Gallatin Seventh Day Adventist

Special Prayers and Encouragement: Darryl and Liz Wilkinson’s grandson, Laura Hoyle and son Patrick McBroom and family, Vicki Hiley, and the many prayers were requested from all members spoken and unspoken.

Memory Verse: James 5:8 “Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” Sabbath School Lesson; “Getting Ready for the Harvest” led by Mary Alice Dalby. Scripture: John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Sermon: “Can We Be Friends” Pastor Lee Venden. Speaker next Sabbath: Pastor Mike Carner.

Gallatin Assembly of God

A group of women from the church put a Christmas package together for the residents of the rest home. Ina and J.L. McFee and Gloria Lint delivered the gifts to each resident with a “Merry Christmas” salutation.

The adult Sunday School lesson was from I Timothy 1:15 and Romans. Clyde Lint led “God’s Grace.” Those with recent birthdays were recognized. Ina McFee shared a report of missionary giving followed by children collecting offering.

The service was given to The New Creation Singers who ministered with uplifting music and testimonies, which included a message about the best fit, “Jesus.” The message was “Put Your Trust in Jesus.” The Christmas program will be Dec. 21. There will be a sack of Christmas treats for those in attendance.

Altamont United Methodist

UMW ladies met for their Christmas part on Dec. 10. A fun gift exchange was played and a cookie exchange was held. “Power Manger” devotional was by Bertie Stith. Nine Christmas cards were sent to loved ones. Roll call was a goal I hope to accomplish for 2014. Pastor Marilyn’s message Sunday was “Out of the Ordinary.” Laurie Walton Roll gave the children’s sermon “The Twelve Days of Christmas After Christ’s Birth.”

John and Sharon Anthuis lit and presented the three candles of Advent, Gifts of Mercy. Dec. 21 will be our Christmas Sunday. Share with the congregation any song, reading or special Christmas remembrance. Gifts and treats will be given to all. Enjoy the beauty of God’s home this Advent season. Services will start at 9:30 a.m. Everyone welcome. If you wish, bring some canned goods or mittens, scarves or socks to carry families through the winter. Prayers are needed for Keith Talbott, Doroty Duffy and Marvin Eaton. Barbara Youtsey has a new grandson, Johnathan Youtsey, born Dec. 10.

Gallatin First Baptist

Everyone was welcomed by Bro. Garrett, and Mike Henderson led congregational singing. The Celebration Choir under the direction of Linda Arnold presented the Christmas cantata “Christmas Makes Everything New.” Bro. Garrett presented a short devotional from Luke 2 following the cantata. Church in Conference was held Sunday evening.

An Open House at the Parsonage will be held on Dec. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. The Lord’s Supper will also be served during this time by our deacons. The only lighting will be candlelight in the worship center and soft Christmas music will be playing in the background. You may sit wherever you want to meditate and pray for as long as you desire. When you are ready, you may move to the front of the worship center where you will be served the elements of the Lord’s Supper by a deacon.

Lake Viking

“An Angelic Encounter” was Pastor Robert Nelson’s sermon from Luke 1:1-4. The special music “This Old House” was sang by Mark Beeson. Lake Viking Church will have a Christmas Eve Worship Service on Wednesday, Dec 24 at 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

The Ladies Bible Study Group will meet on Wednesday morning in the fellowship hall at 10 a.m. Wednesday evening the Youth Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. and the Adult Bible Study Group will meet at 7 p.m.

The choir meets for practice at 7 p.m. each Thursday. If you would like to become a part of our church choir please join us this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Lake Viking Church is an interdenominational church located just outside the east entrance of Lake Viking. Our Sunday School begins at 9 a.m. and our Worship Service begins at 10 a.m. Come and join us as we worship “The reason for the Season” Jesus!

Fairview

Opening was with prayer and was followed with a brief devotional “Wait Patiently With Me” from Micah 7:7. Following was the hymns and closing with prayer for Sunday School. Sunday School class studied from the book of Psalms 95:1-7, “Make a Joyful Noise.” The message was brief with scripture from Hebrews 1:1-7. Afterwards we had the Children’s program and gifts giving following. The children did a wonderful program.

Gallatin United Methodist

The message by Pastor Mike Tipton at the 11 a.m. service was “Rejoice” on Luke 1:39-56. Karlie Roe and Kendra McMahon lit the candles as Jan Johnson played the prelude. Pastor Mike gave the children’s message “Having Joy.”

The children will be collecting food for the food pantry in December. Please place your goods in the back of the church. Children are having Advent study during church time in December rather than Sunday school. Phil and Nancy Tate lit the third Advent candle.

Bible study is at Church on Wed. Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve service is 6:30 for everyone. There will be a manger at the back of the church for a “Gifts of Gratitude” offering that will be used for missions, half locally and half for global missions. Methodist cookbooks are for sale for $8. Continued prayer concerns are for Lois Wood, Dale Alexander, Kelly Walker, Patrick McBroom, Tucker Wilkinson, Mary Sullenger, and Madelyn Ledgerwood who is Carol Weaver’s sister.

Pattonsburg Christian

Rev. Terry’s sermon “Mary Visit Elizabeth” was from Luke 1: 39-47. Remember in prayer: Jill Crabtree, Mildred Hulet, Merlin Bozarth, Joann Anderson, Betty McFee, Mary Lou Brandt, Trevor Teel, Tessa Lang, Paula Walker, Julia Cornett, James Eivins, Forsy Lupfer, Kelly Vanderslice, Kathy Henerson, Patrick McBroom, Bill Hendrix, Margie Huffman, and the family of Tobe Wyrick.

Friends in Christ

In lieu of our normal service, we brought ingredients and worked together to make homemade chicken noodle soup. We then enjoyed the soup at our fellowship lunch. Afterwards, we went caroling on a hay wagon and delivered jars of homemade soup to elderly shut-in people.
